What does a turkey dinner, this ring, and a dog on PBS have in common? They all have a Wish Bone involved.
The Chevron ring or the Wish Bone ring has been around since about 1800 BCE. Which if you didn't know, is like a really, really long time ago. Some may call it a simple design, but we in the know, know it is a classical design. But don't let that fool ya, you still see this design used today.
They are mainly used on military and police badges and uniforms, but if you are eagle-eyed you can see them around you. From Charlie Brown's iconic sweater pattern to parquet patterns on the floor. The best designs just meld into the scenery you don't even notice them until you look.
But we are not the first to wear them on our hands. Ancient Spartans, Romans, and Greek warriors would wear then into battle as a symbol of protection. These days, you see them adorned with diamonds and stacked on top of each other as weddings rings to casual everyday pieces. Which with our rings, you can totally stack them up 2, 3, 4, even *gasp* 5 deep if you so wish.
Also, depending on how you wear the "V" design, it can mean different things. A downward chevron is associated with Venus, you know, that home girl of love and beauty. An upward chevron, is associated with that boy Mars, all with his war and things. Which, if we are being honest here, Mars just need to relax. Like dude, chill. Life is much better when you ain't out fighting all the time.
